GEORGETOWN Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ms. Alero Proctor revealed yesterday that the man who sought treatment for a gunshot injury to the right thigh on Sunday, about at 22:15 h, has been identified as Stephen Rambieo.
She said the 39-year-old man, of Lot 139 Fourth Street, Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, went to the Accident and Emergency Unit and, after being treated, was admitted to the Male Surgical Ward, where he is still a patient in stable condition.
Police have since reported that Rambieo and his wife, Carmen Persaud, were at home when three gunmen surprised them, after gaining entry by kicking down a door.
The victims were taken into a bedroom, where they had a scuffle with the robbers, during which the husband was shot and wounded as the attackers demanded money and other valuables.
The bandits carted off about $65,000, some gold jewels and a cellular phone, Police said.
