Toucan Industries enlists supermarkets help in breast cancer fight

-plugs Hunt’s tomato products as possible deterrent
HUNT’S TOMATO Products has teamed up with local representative, Toucan Industries Inc., to launch a breast cancer awareness drive here to mark Breast Cancer Month.
Toucan Industries has launched promotions at various supermarkets countrywide to heighten breast cancer awareness, and Nigel’s Supermarket on Robb Street yesterday joined hands with the various bodies in support of breast cancer awareness month.
During the month of October, customers who purchase three Hunt’s tomato products will receive a free shopping bag, and a portion of the proceedings will go towards the Periwinkle Club in support of  breast cancer survivors.
 Members of the Periwinkle Club and representatives of Nigel’s Supermarket and Toucan Industries Inc. at the launch of the promotion yesterdayMs. Valerie Lowe, advertising agent for Toucan Industries, said the reason Hunt’s tomato products were chosen is because research has proven that tomato-based products help reduce the risk of cancer.
Secretary of the Periwinkle Club, Dr. Wallis Best-Plummer said the club is always appreciative of the donations and support from other agencies, and that the portion that will be given to the club will assist greatly in some of the activities planned for the survivors.
Dr. Plummer said the club is a support group for not only cancer survivors, but also anyone interested in helping a family member or a friend to cope with the sickness. She said that over the years, the group has lent support to cancer survivors by distributing hampers and funding to support patient’s diagnosis.
