Taylor delighted with second ODI century

POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa, (CMC) – West Indies stroke-maker Stafanie Taylor says she is thrilled with her second One-Day International century, after lashing 147 against the Netherlands in the ICC Women’s Challenge yesterday. The 19-year-old Jamaican slammed 15 fours and a six off 141 balls as the Windies crushed the Dutch by 148 runs in their opening game of the series at the Witrand Cricket Field.

“Overall I would say I’m very happy with my knock. It feels good to set a new landmark in West Indies cricket (most ODI centuries),” Taylor said.

“Hopefully I can continue to do better and better things for West Indie cricket in this series and in years to come.”

Her first century also came in South Africa when she hit 109 last year against the hosts in Paarl.

The right-hander shared three important partnerships to hold the innings together, posting 50 for the first wicket with Juliana Nero (11), 80 for the fourth wicket with Stacy-Ann King (22) and 113 for the fifth wicket with Deandra Dottin (59).

“I feel really good knowing that I have been working so hard and the hard work has been paying off,” said Taylor.

“I went to the crease today with a clear mind and with clear intentions. My aim was to get a good score and put the team in a winning position.

“The pitch this morning was slow so I have to be patient in the early stages of my innings. The pitch also offered assistance to the bowlers, and I had to make the adjustment.”

Her partnership with Dottin was an exhilarating one, requiring just 95 balls and providing spectacular lower order fireworks for the innings.

“When Deandra came in I told her to have a look and she what was happening,” Taylor explained.

“I was fully aware she had the power to hit the ball but I wanted her to be a bit patient early on, as she could be destructive at the bottom end of the innings. It worked out very well.”

Dottin slammed six fours and two sixes off 58 balls as she matched Taylor stroke for stroke.
