CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh handed over a 15 horse power (hp) outboard engine to the Headmistress of Dredge Creek Primary School, in Pomeroon, Ms. Debbie Mc Lennon, on Tuesday morning.
Speaking at Charity Marketing Centre, on the Essequibo Coast where the presentation took place, he said the Regional Administration wants every child across the region to have access to education.
Mc Lennon, who is a member of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), had requested the engine to transport children from the Kaiabauri Creek (a tributary of Pomeroon River) to the school in Dredge Creek, located several miles away, Baksh said.
On receiving the motor, she thanked him for his prompt response and promised that the gift will be cared and used on the school boat, which was also donated by the Regional Administration.
Mc Lennon said attendance has increased and the number on roll at the school has grown since the boat transportation from Kaiabauri became available.
She said, when she assumed the post some months ago, there were only 47 pupils on register but the number is now 113.
Dredge Creek has a new two-storey wooden and concrete school building, with all the necessary amenities conducive to learning, Mc Lennon said.
