Greene reports progress in Sheema Mangar murder probe

COMMISSIONER Henry Greene said yesterday that the Police are now treating the death of Demerara Bank employee Sheema Mangar’s as murder.
He reported that Police have seen the motor car which is suspected to have run over the 21-year-old woman.

Greene said the owner of the vehicle is in custody and there is evidence that it was involved in a recent accident, with dents on its front.
He also said another suspect is being sought.
Greene said Mangar’s cellular phone records revealed that it is not in use but the investigation is active and a man is expected to appear in Court today.
He said snatching of cellular phones is on the increase and Police are in receipt of several such reports.
Mangar, of 675 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, after being killed while trying to retrieve her ‘Blackberry’ phone on Friday night.
The instrument was forcibly taken from her as she was awaiting transportation at the corner of North Road and Camp Street in Georgetown.
