KENDREA Smith, 20, of Lot 193 Cadet Lane, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, was yesterday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $10,000 for drug trafficking.
She pleaded guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry, to having, on September 10, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, 5.836 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose.
The prisoner, who was busted while waiting to board a flight, begged the Court for mercy and said she was sorry for what she did.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Oswald Massiah said the woman is a Guyanese living in the United States (U.S.) and was an outgoing passenger when the substance was found in the bottom of her suitcase.
