GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) yesterday introduced its ‘Save the Water’ jingle to step up its public education programme on conservation.
It happened at the utility’s Corporate Complex, at Vlissengen Road and Church Streets, Georgetown, where the composition, by veteran songwriter and producer, Burchmore Simon, of Kross Kolor Records, was played, featuring singers Jomo Primo and Rajesh Dubraj.
To be promoted on 98.1 FM radio shortly, the presentation was sponsored by Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and will be an essential component of GWI’s 2010 public awareness campaign, with the aim of alerting users to the need for conserving water.
GWI’s 2010 water conservation and public education strategic plan is being executed under the theme ‘Creating Behavioural Change to curb wastage’.
It encompasses GWI’s ‘H2O Kidz ‘N’ Action’ school education programme and its customer services community awareness campaign, ‘Community Connect’.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Yuri Chandisingh reiterated that it is important to conserve water and the importance of the school based education series upon which GWI has embarked as part of its sensitisation project.
PAHO Environmental Health Advisor, Mr. Adrianus Vlugman maintained that everyone needs to look at water waste management in their homes and fixing leaks.
He said GWI’s school educational and awareness programmes are good entry points for an integrated curriculum on water conservation.
Vlugman also alluded to over use and abuse of water in homes and observed that the jingle is fresh, perky and something new, for which he congratulated the makers.
Simon said he has written 500 jingles and the GWI’s one minute is a mixture of hip hop and chutney.
