GUYANA’s ambassadors at the just concluded inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore must be applauded for their performances even though there were mixed fortunes in standing on the podium. In addition to the reports in the dailies about “Chavez Ageday” (100m) gaining fourth position in the B finals with 10.90,his overall placement stands at #12 out of 32 which is dam impressive considering coming from this end of the globe and still running on grass. I also tried retrieving data on “Jevina Straker’s” overall standings and unfortunately there is no data.
Having shared my findings, I came across a very interesting story of a swimming athlete from “Iraq” by the name of “Ahmed Salam Al-Dulaimi.”
He swam in the 50m freestyle and his final standing is #33 out of 50.
Despite all that is surrounding that nation and being a sports enthusiast, these are the “Special Olympic Memories” for me.
The mere fact that he was there making representation of his country and which is a very important aspect of The Olympics, is inspiring.
Our athletes at Singapore Youth Olympics should be applauded
