The current government has been working so hard to mould the sculpture exactly how it is suppose to look like. Yes, our PPP led government is doing a great job in making our country a better place to live everyday with their advantageous inputs over the past years in various sectors. Our President, the leader and powerful economist and the Cabinet members who have roles of a management team in Guyana, need a round of applause, especially for all the hard effort, time and spectacular decisions the President made to make Guyana’s surroundings more beautiful everyday. He is truly a man of leadership that has envisaged to make the country a more developed place and so far is currently materializing these splendid dreams, most of them already reluctantly existing and they are magnificently blossoming like fresh fruits in places ready to be tasted and enjoyed. One of Guyana’s many wonders that our President managed to make happen, was the completion of the Berbice River Bridge. It is an outstanding structure made to facilitate people local and foreign to cross over whenever traveling to Berbice or to town making life efficient and effective at the same time.
I certainly love the bridge, since I am a Berbician and it is time efficient to go to town for shopping and to come home before night fall. I remember when the bridge was being commissioned on December 23, 2008 it was a golden goal that has been achieved. I am sure no other government could have done it but would have bragged about doing it and not getting anywhere. The Berbice River Bridge is well constructed and needed for the use of vehicles to traverse over one portion of the Berbice River in order to get on the other side of Berbice which then leads you to Mahaica, Mahaicony, East Coast and then Georgetown the capital city of Guyana.
The bridge has allowed people to experience, learn, observe and see for themselves how people spend their lives in town and in the country. It is something like the story about the town mouse going to the country and the country mouse going to town, the two of them being friends and switching places for the day in order to get a feel as to live in the others shoes. It is good to know about the way of life in various parts of the country so you know once you visit the place for the first time it will tell you alone if you feel relaxed, peaceful, excited, adventurous etc. in the vicinity. A lot of new faces I have reached so far from East Coast, Mahaica, Essequibo, and Georgetown on the 63 beach on Sundays when I come out to hang with my family like others and they have told me the same, that they love the bridge, it is more speedier to get over and they love 63 beach and plan to come for a visit again. I believe our President should have named the bridge after himself just like how other places are named after previous presidents like J.F.K International airport, Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, R.R. Venetiaan Paramaribo Bridge and other developments worldwide that presidents have been competing with their excellence and what they have to offer while running their terms in parliament.
It is crystal clear to see that the bridge should have been named by His Excellency Dr. President Bharrat Jagdeo who won the Champion of the Earth Award. The Berbice River Bridge should be dubbed “Bharrat’s Berbice River Bridge.” I am not making this statement for anyone to feel left out nor am I writing this to favour the president, but I am simply telling the truth of what I think should happen since in other countries as I showed you before monuments are named after presidents in order to retain self respect and honour for that president who has accomplished something very great.
Leaving out the bridge there are many remarkable accomplishments our President has made over the recent years, nearly the end of his two terms in office. As the old adage goes, “Better late, than never,” meaning it is best you do something even though it may be done late than never doing anything at all and breaking all of your promises you made towards the society you planned to develop.
The remaking of the Tagore Memorial School that I attended in year 2000 and the opening ceremony with Mr. President and Prince Charles was charmingly done to make the students lives better at a school that was dilapidating. The Corentyne Highway has certainly brightened up the area of Berbice allowing vehicles to travel freely on the road without worrying about the potholes that usually damage vehicles that travel with unexpected speed in areas they are unsure about. The Corentyne road no longer has large craters in it like the moon, but is smooth as ever, when you’re driving a vehicle you feel like you’re cruising down the Atlantic with a sailboat. It feels like heaven indeed.
I am not bragging nor boasting, I am trying to boost the current government to continue to try hard and achieve their objectives in the short time they have left to go because whatever they do it will always be remembered by us citizens of Guyana.
I do not know why many local citizens complain about nothing happening around the area and the government isn’t trying to help them and all sorts of rubbish come out of their mouths before they stop and think, before they stop and look at the improvements of their life around them.
The magnificent New Amsterdam hospital has also been an establishment that the President has invested in making the environment more lively as it use to look boring in that area before. The government also has Cuban doctors working there on contracts that are friendly and give the best advice they can to patients.
I am also astonished about other countrywide developments such as the Amalia Falls hydropower being introduced to Guyana to bring more electricity towards the citizens of Guyana, also the recently brand new Linden Hospital, the Takutu bridge linking Guyana to Brazil, The new optic cable agreement with GTT and Telesur, and other attractive investments the president made to make our country the best everyday. It is said that he even has some more ventures awaiting to be unfolded in the near future like a bridge leading to Venezuela and another to Suriname and kids getting computers to use countrywide and much more I left out but you get the idea what I want to show you, the public.
I do hope some of you reading this article are looking at the government through my eyes, the future what I see and not the one that is not good enough for you that you believe. It is a time in life to look at the good and ignore the bad because another saying that my father always tells me and it is also a Johnny Nash song, “Rome was not built in a day, opposition may come your way, but the hotter the battle you feel, is the sweeter the victory now, you can get it if you really want, but you must try, try and try, try and try, you will succeed at last.” I have been moved by these motivating words that influenced me and made me believe that I could achieve anything great or small as long as I work hard towards it, face contradictions and have faith in God I know I can persevere, the country can, and so can you.
Public sector developments have increased, improved tremendously in recent years
