Linden Chamber of Commerce elects new executive

-Burns the new President
THE LINDEN Chamber of Industry Commerce and Development (LCICD) last week elected a new executive committee to run the Chamber until 2012.
The new executive committee comprises: Marvin Burns, President; Courtney Handy, Senior
Vice-President; Nolan Walton, Junior Vice-President; Sheena Bristol, Secretary; Neil Fraser, Treasurer; and Gerald Whittington, Asst. Secretary/Treasurer.
According to a release issued by the Chamber, Burns lived and ran his own business for a number of years in the Netherlands, where he not only qualified himself in the fields of Economics and Political Science, but also had a distinguished career at First Class cricket as both a professional player and coach.
In addition to this, he once worked as a sports journalist, and has notched up some 15 years on the stock market as a qualified Futures Commodities Trader.
He currently operates a Business and Finance Management Consultancy here in Guyana and was previously contracted to the Linden Economic Advancement Programme (LEAP).
Burns, who had up to last week been Senior Vice-President, replaces outgoing President, Mr. Basil Jaipaul.
On his election to office last Wednesday, he thanked  Jailpaul for his commendable  efforts over the years, and acknowledged  the many difficulties and constraints that he operated under.
Burns also expressed the hope that the new executive body will pull together to make the Chamber more proactive and relevant to its members in addressing the issues  affecting and hampering the economic progress of the Linden business community.
The first statutory meeting of the LCICD will be held on Thursday August 26.
