Lies and misinformation cause erroneous perceptions

There are some persons who are contending that the government gave $50M to the Indian community to celebrate Arrival Day, and the same amount to the Amerindian community to celebrate Amerindian Heritage Month, but only gave Afro-Guyanese organisations $1.6M.
Culture Minister Frank Anthony disputes this contention and said that his Ministry gave no money to the IAC, except that some material assistance was provided for the events hosted by that organisation, also that, as far as he is aware nowhere that amount was given to Amerindians.
The minister said that the money given to the various groups was augmented by other assistance provided by the Office of the President and regional authorities throughout the country wherever Emancipation celebrations were being held.  Some of the facilitating mechanisms government puts in place to ensure successful Emancipation celebrations is making Parliament Buildings available for Libation ceremonies and the National Park for ACDA’s national celebratory festival, as well as performers from the National School of Dance for the cultural programmes.
The truth is that, during that terrible period of brutal crimes , murders of innocent persons were the order of the day, as well as other terrorist acts in various communities along the East Coast corridor.  But lies about these realities were peddled to the Afro-Guyanese Diaspora.
However, because these people have been removed from the influences of their despotic leaders and have experienced a proactive and productive culture, their perceptions are not so easily swayed anymore because they can now think for themselves, and their reason and intellect allows them latitude to make analytical observations based on facts and their own judgement.  They know that in that distant land where they reside a Guyanese is a Guyanese irrespective of race, and that the profiling of their President at home should not have to do with race, but with achievements and attitudes.
On the front page of Saturday’s edition of this newspaper was a telling picture of Buxtonians from the Diaspora celebrating their Freedom Day with their President, whom many have come to realise really cares about all the people of this country without divides – a President who is prepared to listen to the concerns of his people and address those concerns, once the petitions are reasonable and doable.
There are persons who are intent on instigating and propagating racial conflict in this country, because their agenda is self-aggrandisement, with no care of the consequences to this country and its people.
One person even wrote stating another way should have been found to help Buxton, and that is by Government pursuing agricultural initiatives.  He certainly does not live in this country because then he would have known about Minister Persaud constant engagements with Buxtonians and the many interventions made toward this and other developmental eventualities.
But this does not suit the kingmakers and the power seekers.
Members of the various Indian organizations that celebrate special calendar events informed the Chronicle that members of the Indian Diaspora worldwide provide most of the wherewithal to fund their activities
