Amazon Caribbean seeks Minister’s assistance in face of repeated armed robberies

Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee yesterday met with representatives of Amazon Caribbean Limited, the certified organic pineapple and heart of palm company following constant attacks on the business by gunmen. Rohee said the meeting was called following a letter he received from the company and the group was invited to discuss the matter, along with a member of the Guyana Police Force.
A company representative told the meeting that they have suffered many attacks when their boats were boarded by gunmen and their crew beaten and robbed at gunpoint in the rivers they traverse.
The man explained that police responses to the crimes have not always been swift.
