Guyana’s Men qualify for quarter-finals, beat Panama 3-1

CAC 2010 Table Tennis …
AFTER having disposed of our Caribbean neighbours, the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, 3-2, in Thursday’s first round of games, Guyana’s Men’s table tennis team went on to deal a similar fate to Panama who lost to the locals 3-1 on Friday which secured them a spot in the quarter-finals of the Central American and Caribbean Games, being played in San German, Puerto Rico.
Idi Lewis and Paul David both dispatched Panama’s David Ariza while Christopher Franklin, who played a crucial role in the team’s first round victory over Trinidad, accounted for Justo Altamiranda.
Franklin took care of his end by handing an 11-5, 12-10, 12-10 defeat to Altamiranda while Lewis beat Ariza 11-8, 12-10, 11-5 and David also beat Ariza 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 in the singles competition.
The duo of Lewis and David, however, succumbed at the hands of Altamiranda and Ariza in the doubles segment of the competition losing out to their Panamanian counterparts 5-11, 8-11, 8-11.
The female players, on the other hand, are not doing as well as the men, having lost to Mexico 3-0 in the first round after which The Dominican Republic dealt another 3-0 defeat to them in Friday’s second round of games.
