Guyana, Netherlands Antilles record emphatic wins

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – The Netherlands Antilles and Guyana recorded emphatic victories in the second round of matches in the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup on Thursday at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
After being held to a 2-2 draw in their opening encounter against Guyana, the Netherlands Antilles easily defeated Aruba 3-0, after ensuring a 1-0 advantage at the half-time break.
Liandro Martis opened the scoring for his team after his captain Abdiel Pinedo failed to convert from the penalty spot.
In the second half, Quinston Bartholomeus converted twice to seal the deal, in an encounter which saw three players from the Aruba team being red-carded in the second half of play.
In the second match of the day, hosts Dominica failed to impress and were mauled by Guyana 5-0. Guyana took a 3-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of play and never let the home team back in the encounter, as two more goals were scored in the second half.
Kerwyn Benjamin, Pernell Schultz, Domini Garnett, Sherwyn Lewis and Joel Prince were the men on target for Guyana.
In the third and final round of matches today, Guyana will take on Aruba from 15:00 h and at 17:00 h, Dominica will go in search of a win when they come up against the Netherlands Antilles.
Guyana and the Netherlands Antilles have four points each, while Aruba and Dominica are on three and zero points respectively.
The top two teams will advance to the second round of competition.
