AN Indian philosopher said that “the negativity of one’s mind only sees the dark side of other.”
Looking at the media daily one cannot help to see the negative writing about the government and members of the PPP. There are some newspapers and TV stations which are independent but very bias and anti government. They are like flies which settle on milk just to make it bad for their own purpose. They find faults from anything the government does, from the mangrove trees to the hydro project and the personal lives of people. These critics want people to believe that they are the chosen ones. Some of them hide under other banners which they do not believe in.
Joey Jagan hides under his parents’ name. He said that his father is the Mahatma and his mother is patriotic. It is true about his parents but his parents are Marxist which he does not believe in. It was his parents who formed the Marxist PPP and trained his followers in Marxist philosophy. Joey never believed that PPP will one day form the government that is why he left to live in the USA. Like other critics Joey never gives the PPP any credit for what they are doing but tries to find faults just to spoil it like flies. He is even trying to destroy the PPP party which his parents built. I have never read or heard of someone in the world who is against everything that their parents have built but they follow in their parents footsteps. In India although Indria Gandhi’s husband Feroz Gandhi had differences with his father-in-law Nehru, Indria and his children and her grandchildren all stood side by side with the Congress Party.
Freddie Kissoon said in his writing that Dr. Walter Rodney is his hero.
According to the WPA Freddie was sitting on the fence and was not politically active as he claims.
I don’t know if Freddie knows anything or if he has ever seen Rodney. To my knowledge Rodney came to Guyana in the seventies to take up his appointment at UG which he was denied. Freddie, I believe was in Grenada teaching, came back after Bishop was killed in 1983 and had to run from the Americans. Walter Rodney died in 1980. During that time I have never heard of Freddie Kissoon until the late eighties when his articles started to appear in some newspapers. I can remember one of his articles “the PPP is the only Marxist party in the world that has its accounts straight.”
Freddie said that Rodney is his hero. Rodney was a Marxist; he admires what Castro did for the people of Cuba and was a close associate of Dr. Jagan and the PPP. He hates the PNC. Then how come Rodney is his hero when he has nothing in common with the man? Freddie hates Marxism, hates Castro and the PPP and he is friendly with the PNCR who was responsible for Rodney’s death. Rodney must be turning in his grave when people like Freddie are hiding under his name.
Rodney said that the PNCR believes that to rule is their birth right and they will not give up power at any time. The PNC under both Burnham and Hoyte had never wanted to give up power but they were forced to do so. First they were installed in power by the USA and the UK and to maintain themselves in power they rigged all the election. When they lost the 1992 election Hoyte did not want to give up power but was told by Jimmy Carter that he has to go. They are frustrated and they are doing everything to gain power but instead of winning support they are losing it. They let loose terrorists, burnt down the country, killed people and that did not work. They then said that they wanted shared government in 2006. Now they are trying to woo other small opposition parties to join them but all indication shows that it is going to be a failure.
Hoyte said in Canada after he lost the Presidency that we have changed and who do not believe us are evil. He said that the people must put them back in power for they are the ones to solve their problems. His story is like God has overthrown the devil and he (devil) is going around and tell the people that God is the evil one and that they must follow him.
The president and his wife decided to separate and this became a big issue in both the opposition camp and the news media. The French President separated from his wife and married someone else and the media did not make a fuss about it. There are many leaders in the world that have been separated from their wives or have problems and the media do not make it a big issue as what the press and the opposition did to President Jagdeo. But in Guyana the President is the “eye pass” of the media and the opposition.
Guyana is a poor country and when the PPP took over the government it debt was very high so the government has to knock at the doors of the lending agency so has to have the loan written off. The critics including the PNC who borrowed the money and wasted it have accused the government of begging.
They accuse the government of planting the wrong mangrove to protect the coast.
The government is accused of discrimination but they cannot produce one piece of evidence to support their allegation. They use fancy logics to prove their point which cannot stand.
Guyana has come forward in helping the world to save the environment. The world praises President Jagdeo for what he did but his own country men lambasted him. Freddie Kissoon started to criticise him for being nominated for the peace prize. He went so low as to associate that with the separation of his wife. Former Vice-President of the USA Al Gore has won the peace prize and he and his wife are in a divorce battle, yet no one in America has said anything that the prize should be taken away from him.
The critics are trying to convince the people that when the PPP took over power from the PNC the country was prosperous. Money was there to do everything and the economy was on sound footing. But it wasn’t so. There was no money and everything was run down. Since then the administration has been fixing and are still fixing the ills that was created by the PNC government.
Now that the government in a good financial position to tackle the problems, the critics are only waiting for it to do something to sit like flies on it.
The hydro plant which the government is now capable of building is having a field day by the critics. Everyone knows the rest. They say there is no press freedom yet their writing and their voices can reach every part of the country. For them press freedom means that the critics have the right to write and say anything. It doesn’t matter if it is fiction or not and the PPP and the government have no right to say anything or write anything or even defend themselves.
When the police shoot criminals they are accused of violating human right but when the criminals kill innocent people and police they say the government is not doing enough to protect its people.
When supporters of the PPP or a government employee build a house or has a nice vehicle he is accused of being corrupt or associated with corruption, but when a critic or another person lives the same life style he is an honest and a hard working man.
They claim that the economy is not performing well so then how can they claim that the government is wasting the tax payers’ money. If the economy is not doing well how will the people get money to pay taxes?
Many have criticised the VAT, but they never tell the people that almost every country in the world have some form of VAT. In Canada it is called GST and PST which is 13% and the government has added an 8% to it which they call HST (Harmonized Sales Tax.)
So it doesn’t matter how good the government performs the critics will always be negative.
Read
ing some of the daily news one will believe that they are reading the New Nation (the organ of the PNC)
Even the blind can see the negative minds of the critics.
Some sections of the media are biased and anti-government
