Giftland Office Max, Water Street, Georgetown on Sunday last presented residents of Tiger Bay with backpacks as part of its humanitarian drive.
Giftland Marketing Manager, Compton Bobb, told the media yesterday that more than 260 back packs containing school supplies will be handed out to school children.
He said during a census conducted recently in Tiger Bay they visited 130 homes and through a survey they have allotted two back packs per household.
The exercise began Sunday morning and saw a large turnout of women and children, who braved the rains and stood patiently in long lines outside the Water Street store awaiting their turn to collect their backpacks.
In an effort to reach out to the community, Giftland in collaboration with the Guyana Red Cross Society and Mr. Ryan Singh of Escape Café (East Bank Demerara), facilitated the survey. The target groups include school aged children, who received backpacks yesterday.
During a recent meeting it was decided that all the funds from the Giftland’s first Talent Night will be donated to charity to better meet the needs of the community in which Giftland is located (Tiger Bay).
The brain child of Jade Beepat, the Human Resource Director of Giftland in an effort to create a harmonious relationship among co-workers, she came up with the idea of a talent night as a fund raising activity and charity event. The event will showcase the talent of the employees who performed dances, songs, and dramatic plays among others, while having a fun-filled night also.
The talent night was held on June 19 at the Shangri-La Resort.
