PROJECT Management Consultant attached to the uranium exploration company, Prometheus Resources, the Guyana Office of U308 Corporation, Mr. Shazadh Khan, has disclosed that more of the mineral has been discovered in this country.
But the amount will not be verified before year end after certain guidelines have been adhered to, he told the Guyana Chronicle. “We have an idea of what we have found, so far, but we have to follow procedure before we can disclose anything,” Khan explained.
Prior to this most recent discovery, seven million pounds of uranium were found in the last three years and another 50 million are expected to be mined in the next three years.
Up to now, the finds have been in Kurupung, Region One (Barima/Waini) and Khan said ore structures have been intercepted and the exploring team is pressing on to locate more.
He said the Amerindian communities continue to be engaged in relation to the sustainability of the company’s operations and the partnerships are working out well.
In a previous interview with this newspaper, Khan had indicated that 80 per cent Prometheus employees are from Guyana and 65 per cent are Amerindians.
He said his company’s contributions to the indigenous community include school supplies, tools, generators, solar panels, mechanical assistance and computer training.
Khan said, presently, four persons are on attachment to the company after completing the Geology Degree programme at University of Guyana (UG).
He said there are special arrangements for others at the university who did not manage to meet all the requirements of the course. So, during their off time, they are also on attachment.
Khan said other areas are being looked at as possible exploration sites in the company’s push to mine the 50 million pounds find.
U308, listed on the Canadian Stock Exchange, raised Cdn$30M to start its operations and, since then, has invested at least Cdn$20M.
The company is described, on its website, as a Canadian junior mineral explorer based in Toronto, Canada, with its current focus on mining in Guyana, the primary business objective being to acquire and explore, with the intent of developing mineral resource properties.
To date, its subsidiary, Prometheus Resources (Guyana) Inc has been granted two Reconnaissance Permits, the CM Permit (Permit A) and the PMCR Permit (Permit B), by Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), to conduct geological and geophysical surveys on adjacent lands covering an area of approximately 1.33 million hectares in western Guyana.
