Hugh Cort, 41, of 1647 South Ruimveldt Park, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer a break and enter and larceny charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that between July 1 and 5, he broke into the storage bond of Discount Store and stole a quantity of footwear to the value of $72,000.
The defendant said it is a malicious allegation against him since he never broke into the bond.
However, Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, objected to bail and stated that the defendant, in the company of another person, broke into the bond. He said the other person escaped and the defendant was caught inside the bond.
Cort was refused bail and the matter will be called again on July 16.
