Pollydore leads New Silvercity fight back

… Kwakwani Secondary still dominant
MARLON Pollydore turned in yet another eye-catching performance to lead New Silvercity Secondary of Linden over Berbice yesterday as the National Schools Basketball Festival continues at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The slim but focused-looking 18-year-old point guard poured in a game-high 21 points, seven steals and four rebounds in his side’s 72-37 points drubbing of the school from the Ancient County.

Lennil Warden was also in good form, scoring 17 points, while Yannick Primo was the next highest contributor with 15 points and six rebounds.
After falling to pre-tournament favourites Kwakwani Secondary by two points in their opening Under-18 category fixture on the opening day, the school from Linden knew that they would have to be almost perfect in their other encounters if they are to make it to the knockout stages of the competition.
They (New Silvercity) made light work of Charlestown Secondary on Tuesday evening before devouring their Berbice counterpart yesterday.
Meanwhile, Kwakwani Secondary are continuing their dominant run in the competition and are yet to be defeated in both the Under-18 and Under-16 categories.
Up to press time last evening the school from the Berbice River seemed poised to chalk up yet another win against Charlestown as the two sides were halfway through the first half of their clash with Kwakwani Secondary holding a considerable lead.
In other matches played yesterday, Guyana Trust College scraped past an East Bank combined side 31-26 with D. Vincent scoring 22 points, for the victors while Leonard Nurse (9), Keon Bailey (8) and Joel Simple (5) were the scorers for the losing side.
Marian Academy gained a 33-24 victory over St Stanislaus College (Saints) in the lone Under-16 category contest played yesterday. K. Braithwaite (16) and J. Beaton (14) were the top scorers for Marian Academy.
Darrell Williams and Lorenzo Bethune both stroked 11 for Saints who have now plunged to their second consecutive defeat.
