Woman freed of drug trafficking charge

MAGISTRATE Omeyema Hamilton yesterday dismissed drug trafficking charge against Farina Jones.
Sitting at New Amsterdam Court, the magistrate said the facts presented created doubt.

The case for the Prosecution, presented by Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, was that, acting on information, ranks went to the defendant’s home at Angoy’s Avenue Squatting Area outside New Amsterdam and unearthed eight grammes of cannabis (marijuana) from a bag in a wardrobe.
But Defence Counsel Mursalene Bacchus submitted that the defendant, who lives with her husband, never saw the bag before it was found by the cops.
He said it was taken from a closet she shared with her spouse who rented the apartment and that she was not in possession and control of the prohibited substance.
Dismissing the case, the magistrate warned Jones to stay away from trouble.
