TWO Brazilians were robbed on Sunday morning in their Fourth and Light Streets, Alberttown, Georgetown apartment.
One of the victims, Barona Rafaela La Bato Moura, 21, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, with the help of her neighbour, who translated for the Portuguese speaking woman, that the robbery took place around 07:00 h, while she and her roommate, Janice Sales Coutinho, 26, were asleep.
Moura said the robber, clad in a white shirt and a pair of short blue jeans, took all of their belongings, including her passport and other Brazilian documents.
She believes he may have entered the premises when another occupant, who lives in the upper flat, left the building in search of his boss, who owns a restaurant on the ground floor.
Moura related: “When I awoke, the apartment was already cleared of our clothing, phones, laptop computers, money and jewellery. Everything was gone. As I was about to raise an alarm, I saw the thief about to leave and I held on to the bag which contained our possessions. however he pulled out a knife and ordered me not to make a sound while he fled, escaping on a Chinese made scooter.”
The woman said the Police received several such reports from other Brazilians and the immigration authorities advised that they would only be able to remain in Guyana for seven days, after which they will have to return to Brazil if their travel documents are not found.
She said they are very worried about the passports and other documentation and appealed to anyone who finds the lost things to contact them on telephone number 682-9071.
