THE police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Saturday around 19:30hrs on the No. 2 Public Road, East Canje, Berbice.
According to a police report, the accident resulted in the death of Sureshdyal Kalipersaud, 30, and Tony Taloo, 25, both of East Canje.
Investigations have revealed that motor car HB 6777, driven by Steve Ramsarran of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, and motor car HB 7214, driven by Seon Ramsarran of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, were proceeding along the roadway when Steve Ramsarran allegedly swerved from a cow, and collided with HB 7214.
Both drivers lost control of their vehicles causing HB 7214 to collide with Taloo who was riding a bicycle along the road at the time.
The vehicle then turned turtle and HB 6777 collided with a fence and turned turtle resulting in injuries to occupant Kalipersaud, police reported.
Taloo and Kalipersaud were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Both drivers received injuries and were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Seon Ramsarran was admitted a patient while Steve Ramsarran was treated and sent away and is presently in police custody assisting with investigations, police said.
