Money made available to repair Bourda Market roof

CITY Treasurer Andrew Meredith disclosed Monday that an arrangement has been put in place, by the Treasury Department, to alleviate the problems currently faced by Bourda market stallholders. He made the disclosure at the statutory meeting of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) after Councillor Ranwell Jordan said he was aware that a proposal for the rehabilitation work was sent from the City Engineer’s Department.
Asked about it, Mr. Meredith confirmed that the Treasury Department has made available at least $1.8M for the purchase of 100 zinc sheets and other materials to repair the market roof.
He said there is need for the Treasury Department to work more closely with the City Engineer’s Department, so that the job could begin immediately.
Clerk of Markets, Mr. Schulder Griffith had said, last week, that if his department is allowed to spend its own money, repairs on the vending facilities would be executed easier, faster and in a more efficient manner.
