Larceny convict gets time to repay pensioner

TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Samuel Stewart (no address given) was yesterday given until July 17 to make restitution after he pleaded guilty to larceny.
He admitted, to Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, that he stole $4,000, belonging to Samuel Williams, on June 1.
The convict said he knew the virtual complainant from the Night Shelter and accompanied him to uplift his pension.

Stewart said after Williams received the money, he asked him to purchase a few things but he used the money to purchase rabbits for resale and, because he did not make as much as he expected, he was afraid to return to the Shelter.
Instead he spent the remaining $1,500, slept in a guest house because he did not want Police to pick him up off the road, Stewart told the Court.
After he expressed willingness to repay Williams, he was allowed the time but was remanded to prison.
