Strengthening bilateral relations between countries have been fruitful over the years as Guyana continues to gain international recognition from its neighbouring countries and further afield.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad, said that more emphasis continues to be placed on promoting, developing and marketing the country on the international front; and so direct flights from Georgetown to Venezuela will commence upon completion of the Ogle International Airport. It is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
He was commenting on the statements made by Venezuelan Ambassador to Guyana Dario Morandy, who said that Venezuela is working along with three companies from Guyana and one from Venezuela, in an effort to ensure that this is realized.
“Works are moving ahead as expected. There are currently no constraints, and as such direct flights from Guyana to Venezuela will commence by year-end. This will further boost relations between the two countries which are currently in their best moments. We are happy with Guyana,” the Ambassador said.
The Tourism Minister said that tremendous focus is being placed on accelerating and encouraging private sector investment by Government which will ensure a more stable, economic and conducive environment for further development of the country.
He said that once direct flights are established, it will entail more persons travelling to and from the Spanish-speaking country, which will augur well for Guyana’s tourism development.
“We are working to establish this direct flight and we are working closely with the Venezuelan Government and tour operators also to see how we can get on board soon, since this will make flights more frequent,” Minister Prashad said.
Over the years, Government has invested significant resources in the tourism sector to ensure its sustainability and viability by continually exploring and promoting alternative avenues.
This direct flight from Guyana to Venezuela will add to the daily flight already established between Guyana and Suriname. The once daily flight departs Suriname’s Zorg-en-Hoop Airport for the Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara. (GINA)
