WHILE SOME of us are celebrating our forty-four years of independence and our accomplishments, others are bent on criticizing and saying that Guyana has achieved nothing over the years.
This disturbs me greatly, as there are many developments in Guyana that are changing the country.
To begin with, we are no longer governed by the British, and this alone is the biggest achievement.
Through its independence, Guyana has grown in every arena. It is politically stable, and as such, many dreams have been realized.
There are new roads, schools, improved water supply, medical services from coastland to hinterland, and many more services and facilities that are benefitting Guyanese across the country.
So why are some persons saying that there is no change? We are also free, free to make investments and develop ourselves and the economy.
Forty-four years after, we have done a lot to build our nation, and we need to co-operate in order to achieve more.
Next year when we celebrate another year of freedom, there should be more developments in Guyana.
Independence is our biggest achievement
