Policewoman charged with dereliction after prisoner escape

POLICE Special Constable Denutha Vandenburg has been charged, indictably, with dereliction of duty following investigations into a prisoner’s escape.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court and was granted $50,000 bail, before the case was transferred to Reliance Court, Canje, also in Berbice, for June 16.

Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram is prosecuting the case in which the indictable charge said, last March 15,  while being a peace officer and having the prisoner Chetram Singh in lawful custody for simple larceny, the policewoman  permitted the latter to get away from Reliance Police Station lock-ups.
Quick action by Police, subsequently, led to the recapture of 26-year-old Singh, a United States (U.S.) deportee, of Betsy Ground, East Canje.
