Jamaica violence may force rescheduling of matches – WICB

NORTH SOUND, Antigua (Reuters) – The final one-day international and the first Test between West Indies and South Africa next month could be moved from Kingston to another Caribbean island due to violence in the Jamaican capital. “The WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) is monitoring the situation in Jamaica and is discussing it with the major stakeholders and will take a decision (on whether to move the matches) in the coming days,” a spokesman for the board told reporters in Antigua yesterday.
The ODI is scheduled to be played on June 3 and the Test from June 10 to 14.
Jamaica declared a state of emergency in two parishes of Kingston on Sunday after shooting and firebomb attacks on police stations by suspected supporters of an alleged drug lord who faces extradition to the United States.
Gunmen fired on two police stations and set fire to another. At least one policeman was injured.
