Klass calls on Corporate Guyana and Government for support

THE Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) expenditure was the main point of discussion at the press conference that was held yesterday in the boardroom of the federation’s head office which is located in the Section K Campbellville. President of the GFF, Colin Klass, acknowledged that the women’s football programme has definitely been showing growth and he commended the Lady Jaguars for breathing new life into football.
He touched on their recent successes noting that they qualified for the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) which will be held in Puerto Rico and they also advanced to the next round of the Golden Cup which serves as the qualifier for the 2011 FIFA World Cup and will be held in Cancun, Mexico.
Klass related that he finds these achievements to be nothing short of admirable and even more so considering the fact that the women’s arm of the GFF was resuscitated only two years ago.
The flip side to all of the aforementioned progress is the collateral damage which encompasses more than half the total expenditure that was allotted to the GFF for their 2010 calendar of events.
The women’s programme has so far incurred a total of US$107 448 which went into the national team’s participation at the recently concluded round of the Golden Cup world cup qualifier. While that was a means to an end which was completely worthwhile the GFF president revealed that the preparations for the upcoming CAC games also fetch a heavy toll of US$100 000.
According to Klass, the GFF has recently commenced its first FIFA accreditation programme four more of which are scheduled for the year and he also hinted at various developmental steps that are necessary for the progression of football but he stressed that unless corporate Guyana and the Government fulfil their social responsibility the federation will have to forego a number of their initiatives.
The GFF boss acknowledged Banks DIH and DIGICEL Guyana as they are two of the GFF’s most faithful corporate partners.
He also noted that the world governing body as well made the point known that it expects the corporations and government to fulfil these social responsibilities.
