Sexagenarian charged with $60,500 cell phone theft

SEXAGENARIAN Michael Massiah, of Lot 13 ‘D’ Public Road, Farm, East Bank Demerara, has been charged with larceny from the person.
The 63-year-old appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and pleaded not guilty.

Particulars of the offence said, on April 19, he stole a cellular phone, valued $60,500, from Wanda Adams.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was at a car park with an earphone in her ears when the defendant took the instrument out of her bag.
But Massiah, maintaining that he did not steal the phone, claimed he was on his way home when another man held on to him and made the allegation.
Massiah was granted $20,000 bail and until July 1.
