HAP, Food for the Poor donate sneakers, school bags to Region Seven children

THE Humanitarian Assistance Programme (HAP) funded through the Embassy of the United States of America Southern Command in collaboration with Food for the Poor and The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region # 7 made a donation of over one hundred and forty sneakers and eighty book bags to Karrau Creek Primary, Batavia Primary, Karatabo Primary and Agatash Primary Schools’ students in the Riverine Lower Mazaruni District of Region # 7. In addition, some sixty new born baby shoes were distributed among each village’s health centre through the village toshaos. Health workers and various workers of school feeding programs were also privileged to be fitted for some white ladies shoes to assist them in the performance of their duties to their communities.
These were handed out by the HAP team: Ms. Claritza Juarez, Joe Vanty and Jerry Schofield after their assessment of the needs of these schools on May 08, 2010. The team visited these locations along with the Regional Chairman (RC), Mr. Holbert Knights from the RDC Region # 7, the RC’s secretary Ms. Sonia Persaud, Mr. Clameth Younge , Regional Information Officer Ms Cianna Persaud and Mr. Jimeel Davis, the Assistant Director from Food for the Poor on May 9, 2010 for the official donations.
This is just the continuation of an ongoing relationship with HAP from the US Embassy and the RDC Region # 7 in providing services for the under privileged in the region. HAP has been involved with the RDC through the Voluntary Services Organization (VSO) volunteer, Ms. Tessie Bugarin attached to the agriculture department of this region during that time, since 2009 with the extension and rehabilitation of the National Agriculture Research Institute’s Demonstration Centre along the Bartica/Potaro Road, Region # 7 to facilitate chicken rearing demonstrations for farmers in the region. In 2010, HAP made an extension of two fish ponds for tilapia rearing at the same agriculture centre to facilitate demonstrations on the same for farmers to be performed at that location.
The Regional Chairman Mr. Knights is thankful of the support of each toshao and community leaders to the group and the continued support of the US Embassy’s HAP in our region. He is also happy with the additional collaboration of Food for the Poor through HAP and is looking forward to their continued support in future programs.
