THE remaining two semi-finalists in the Annual Mayor’s Cup Knockout Competition will be decided today at the GFC ground, Bourda, when quarter-finals action is set to culminate with an explosive doubleheader.
Kick-off time is 20:00 h in the feature match which pits B.K Int. Western Tigers against Fruta Conquerors, in an all-Georgetown affair. At 18:00 h in the opening encounter, Santos will oppose Seawall FC in the ongoing Georgetown and West Demerara rivalry.
With the two winners advancing to the group of four, joining GDF and Riddim Squad, football fans and supporters can expect classical and entertaining displays from the four lineups, all of whom are in pursuit of $500 000 and the Mayor’s Cup.
Custodian Derrick Carter performing duties between the uprights forms the last line of the Tigers defence, ably assisted by Shermon David and Christopher Williams. Supportive at midfield are Colin Nelson and Ryan Thomas, with Dwayne Alli alongside Need Fraser, spearheading their attack.
Conquerors’ response will be led by Jomo Hinds in tandem with Mustapha Haqq, bolstered by midfielders Lester Peters and Jolyon Harry.
Marshalling the defence will be Neville Stanton and Lennox Charles, two of the most experienced central defenders. Performing duties between the uprights is custodian Oswald Cornette.
After spending last season campaigning in Georgetown’s Division 1, and in the process securing the runner-up spot which earned them automatic promotion to this year’s Premier league, the all-white outfit of Santos, led by William Europe, Trevor Lewis, Kasi John and Shemroy Arthur remains a confident unit in displacing their opponents.
However, ,with a 1-0 first round victory over former champions Pele, West Demerara’s Seawall F.C are brimful of confidence in emerging victorious and will be relying upon the experience of Zevon Atkinson, Adami Hoyte, Garlan Lewis and Tonie Lopes to achieve this feat.
Digicel, Kei-shar’s and A.H. & L. Kissoon are sponsoring the individual prizes while Banks DIH, DDL, Guyana Beverages Inc., RK Security Services, Mohammed’s Enterprises and MACOR.P are among the major sponsors.
