RDC told littering continues around Charity Market

PEOPLE’S Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Pooran Persaud has reported that vendors on the Public Road and the sea defence embankment at Charity, on the Essequibo Coast, are continuing to litter.
Presenting a report by the Local Government and Coops Committee
, to the Tuesday statutory meeting, he said the roadway is very congested and overcrowded with sellers.
Persaud said, despite garbage bins being placed at strategic locations, by Charity-Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), those selling and shoppers in the market area continue to dump in drainage trenches, on parapets and in the Pomeroon River.
He also reported that, very soon, vendors along the road shoulders will be relocated to the new $21M tarmac in front of the Pomeroon Oil Mill.
According to Persaud, Charity-Urasara NDC is paying a special contractor to dispose of garbage from the Charity Market area every day.
Charity is being developed into a township.
