Man charged with $2.1M jewellery robbery remanded

RANDY Morris (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison on three robbery under arms charges.
He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, where particulars of the indictable offences said:


* on March 2, being armed with a gun, he robbed Sheldon Cheddie of one gold chain valued $300,000 in booty valued a total of $740,000;

* the same day, he robbed Tamika Persaud, at gunpoint, of a cell phone worth $28,000

* also on that day, he robbed Dwayne London, at gunpoint, as well, of a gold and diamond chain worth $1.4M and other jewellery with a total value of $2.1M.

Police Inspector Joel Ricknauth, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail and requested a postponement to a date when an application will be made under the Administration of the Justice Act (AJA).
Consequently, Morris will remain incarcerated through May 24.
He was one of two robbery accused refused bail on a similar charge for the second consecutive day.
The other prisoner on remand, Kenneth Reece (no address given either) is alleged to have committed the crime on May 10.
The allegation against him is that he used a knife to rob Cecil Joseph of a motor car valued $2.4M.
Reece has to be back in Court May 20.
