Prosecution to close case in W.C.D. murder trial today

GOVERNMENT Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who performed the post mortem on the body of Anthony Waldron, called ‘Pumpkin’, in the West Coast Demerara murder trial, yesterday testified that death was due to shock and haemorrhage.
Prosecutor Miss Prithima Kissoon, who conducted a case to show that ‘Pumpkin’
was stabbed in the neck with a scissors by accused Hafeez Khan on Sunday, February 22, 2004,  will close her case on the resumption  today.
Defence counsel, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan,  indicated to the court that following the closure of the Prosecution’s case, he would  be relying on certain no-case sub missions made in the absence of the jury.
The last witness to testify yesterday was the Pathologist who testified about performing a post mortem with dissection.
The accused, Hafeez Khan,  who was charged with the murder of Anthony Waldron , on Sunday 22nd February , 2004,  was committed to stand trial for manslaughter.
But his freedom of movement was short-lived.    He  was indicted for murder by the Director of Public Communications which necessitated his being re-arrested and taken into custody, since, he was facing a capital charge.
The alleged killing, it is said, took place at a home at 35 New Road, West Coast, Demerara, where two male friends were involved in a fight which ended in the death of ‘Pumpkin’.
Prosecutor Kissoon, in association with Miss Latchmie Rahamat and Miss Rhondel Weever, told the jury in her opening address, “In all the circumstances  of the case, it is the prosecution’s contention that although the accused had imbibed alcohol, he was not in such a state of drunkenness that he was rendered so stupid by alcohol that he did not know what he was doing.
“He taunted the deceased, brandished a knife in his face and ultimately killed him with a scissors”, the prosecutor said, and gave the jury the assurance that evidence would be led to that effect..
The hearing is continuing.
