TAXI driver Lallchand Budhnauth, 49, of Lot 77 Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, has been charged with forgery.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, the indictable charge alleged that, on February 28, 2002, with intent to defraud, the accused forged an agreement of sale , for Lot 77 Section ‘G’ Campbellville, purporting to show that the plot was sold to him by Baldeo Budhnauth for $7.5M, knowing it was false.
Defence Counsel Hukumchand, in his application for reasonable bail, said the virtual complainant has filed a civil action against the accused and it is presently engaging the High Court.
The lawyer declared he is surprised that a criminal charge has been instituted in relation to the matter.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, had no objection to bail but requested that substantial surety be set.
Consequently, the accused Budhunauth was ordered to post $150,000 until June 25.
