Law maker breaks the law

– fined $20,000 or faces an alternative of three weeks imprisonment
TIRING responsibilities of  being a Member of Parliament and a medical practitioner at the same time may have taken its toll on Parliamentarian,  John Austin,  who was hauled before Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani at the Mahaicony Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of driving an uncertified motor vehicle.

According to police prosecutor,  Sgt.  Joe  Ali, the defendant on April 27 last,  while driving a motor vehicle along Parks Public Road, was pulled over by the police.
He was then asked by the officer to produce his driver’s license  among other documents. Upon checks made, it was discovered that the defendant’s Fitness document for the said vehicle was expired. He was subsequently charged with having an uncertified motor vehicle and placed before the court.
Austin, in his explanation, told the court that prior to being pulled over by the police, his days were demanding and he got lost in having his fitness up-to-par.
The 58 year old doctor and father of three also told the court that he has since renewed the Fitness and all his documentation for his motor vehicle is within the regulations of the law.
Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani, expressed his disappointment in the defendants actions, stating that law makers should make the law, upkeep the law and not break the law.
Austin was then fined $20,000 or faces an alternative of three weeks imprisonment.
