The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday held a cultural programme to commemorate Indian Arrival Day (IAC) at its Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, head office, to show its appreciation of Indian culture and traditions. The programme was a colourful one with employees modelling in various Indian wear and dancing to popular songs from boom boxes.
The event also offered performances by dances by two dance troupes.
GPL also gave tokens to several persons.
Television personality Allan Fenty gave a brief history of “De coming of de coolies”, as he called it.
The gathering was also entertained by his jokes and chit chat for several minutes.
