A BROWN carpet Labaria snake, about four feet in length, scared scores of worshippers Wednesday night in the Voice of Faith Miracle Ministries church at Mc Babb, Essequibo Coast. The congregation had gathered for a prayer meeting when the fearsome reptile was discovered hiding in a corner of the concrete building.
Church Elder Toney Nohar said as members hurried outside, he attacked and killed the snake with a piece of wood.
Other Elder Carl Roberts said he was riding his motorcycle along the roadway in the forested area that is being developed into a housing scheme when he encountered another snake.
He said snakes are attracted to bright lights and he speculated that they had emerged from the savannah after the heavy rainfall Tuesday morning.
Residents, who fear being bitten, especially in the dark are calling for the installation of street lamps along the main roadway from Lima Sands to McNabb.
