Quarter-finals action in Mayor’s Cup football today

QUARTER-finals action in the Annual Mayor’s Cup knockout competition gets under way today at the GFC ground, Bourda, with two intriguing encounters. An unplayable venue last Sunday, following a torrential downpour, had affected the commencement of play in the last eight.
Meanwhile, with both winners advancing to the semifinals, in pursuit of moving a step closer to the coveted prize of $500 000, football fans and supporters can expect an evening of classical and entertaining displays filled with intense rivalry from the first whistle.
Kickoff time is 20:00 h in the feature match, which brings together B.K. Int. Western Tigers and Fruta Conquerors. From 18:00 h in the opening encounter GDF will oppose Uprising in the first of two all-Georgetown affairs.
Nedd Fraser, alongside Dwayne Alli, leads the Tigers’ attack, bolstered by midfielders Ryan Thomas and Colin Nelson. Supportive in the  defence  will be Sheron David and Christopher Williams, with custodian Derrick Carter performing duties between the uprights.
Spearheading Conquerors’ response will be Jomo Hinds, Jolyon Harry, Mustapha Haqq, Delon Williams, Neville Stanton and custodian Oswald Cornette.
Stellon David, Delroy Deen, Sheik Kamal and Desford Williams form the core of the army’s formidable lineup, which is expected to provide the relevant fire power. Rensford Coleridge, Omalli Nassy, Terrence Lewis and Daniel Favourite, all with attacking options, remain a useful combination towards enhancing Uprising’s challenge.
The two remaining semi-finalists will be decided on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 when quarterfinals action culminates with a double-header at the same venue.
