Most comprehensive array of preparations for T20 cricket

Luncheon announces…
CABINET, at its last meeting, was advised that preparations for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 World Cup, are being concluded as Guyana gears to host a part of the programme, including the opening ceremony.
This was disclosed by Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon yesterday, at his weekly post-Cabinet media briefing in Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.

He noted that international cricket returns to Guyana with six of the T20 tournament matches, starting this month end and continuing through early May.
Luncheon said the practice matches are open to the public but must be ticketed although free of charge and a few tickets are still available.
He said Cabinet was also advised that the most comprehensive array of preparations include traffic, stadium management, protocols and security.
“So much so that we were advised that the level of organisation of this activity would be parallel to or a reproduction of that which prevailed at the time of the recent Cricket World Cup tournament that was hosted by the West Indies,” Luncheon informed.
This will be the first time that the Caribbean is hosting the T20 World Cup cricket and Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Barbados will be hosts of the third ICC T20 World Cup.
The opening ceremony will be staged here on April 30 after the New Zealand/Sri Lanka match that is to be followed by West Indies first match of the tournament against Ireland.
Another first will be the playing of an ICC T20 World Cup match under lights.
