Former PPP parliamentarian Basir forms ‘Marxist Circle’

A GROUPING named ‘Marxist Circle’ has been formed on Essequibo Coast, with veteran politician and People’s Progressive Party (PPP) stalwart, Mr. Ishack Basir as co-founder.
Basir, a national awardee and former parliamentarian, who travelled extensively in Europe and the Caribbean and studied Political Science at Moscow Political Academy said he still subscribes to Marxism/Leninism.

He said he believes that Marxist concepts give an individual a scientific view of the origin of Planet Earth and society and is presently dominating the capitalist system.
Basir said the Marxist Circle will embrace all progressive minded people, irrespective of their political alliances.
He claimed that, over the last four decades, his hobby was to make sure that intellectuals in Essequibo receive appropriate reading materials, including distributing the Cuban Grandma newspapers since 1964, having met Fidel Castro thrice.
Basir is also mobilising resources to build a monument in memory of the scores of people killed in the 1976 Cubana Air Disaster near Barbados.
