President signs book of condolence for late Polish leader

“Our condolences to the Polish people and our deepest prayers as they deal with the consequences of this horrific tragedy.”
This was the message written by President Bharrat Jagdeo Thursday when he signed the book of condolence for the late President of Poland Lech Kaczynski, at the European Union Delegation (EU), in Georgetown.
Upon his arrival, the President was met and greeted by the Head of the EU Delegation to Guyana, Geert Heikens.
President Jagdeo described the tragedy which claimed the lives of senior government officials as unparalleled and expressed the hope that the Polish society will overcome the difficulties.

“We wish them well and we hope that they get over this quickly so that the Government can continue functioning and continue progressing in Poland,” President Jagdeo said in a comment to members of the media.
The Polish President and his wife died when the Polish Air Force Tupolev Tu-154M in which they were travelling crashed while attempting to land at Smolensk-North airport in Russia.
The crash claimed the lives of all passengers, among whom were senior Polish government officials on a trip to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
