Other sibling in house lot fraud denied bail

After drinking poison…
THE other sibling implicated in a recent house lot scam,  Prem Persaud Ramnarine was on Friday last denied bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, charged with obtaining money by false pretense.

That was after the remanded prisoner (no address given) pleaded guilty to having,  between December 7, 2009 and January 9, 2010, with intent to defraud, obtained $820,000 from Chaitram Bareshwar, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to obtain a house lot for him, at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, from the Ministry of Housing.
The magistrate informed Ramnarine that his sister, Sunita Singh, with whom he had been jointly charged, pleaded guilty last April 7 and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
The defendant told the Court he is presently suffering with a sore throat because he drank poison, as a result of his involvement with his sibling and was hospitalised for one month prior to his discharge yesterday.
Ramnarine said, after he collected the money, he gave $600,000 to the previously convicted Singh and kept $200,000.
He said it was she who promised to obtain the house lot but disappeared after Police started to look for her.
Ramnarine has been given up to April 13 to decide whether or not he wishes to repay the entire sum stated in the charge.
