STERLING Products Limited (SPL) and Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU) yesterday signed a two-year collective labour agreement, related to pay and other conditions of employment for the company’s employees. It is retroactive to January 1, 2010, and will remain in effect until December 31, 2011.
According to the pact, all full time, permanent employees in the bargaining unit received a pay increase of eight per cent from January1, 2010, and will get a nine per cent raise from December 31, 2010, in two categories: six per cent across the board and 3.5 per cent merit based increments.
The signing ceremony took place at Ministry of Labour, Brickdam, Georgetown, where Chief Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Mr. Yoganand Persaud, countersigned the documentation.
Persaud said he sees the move as a positive one for workers and it will definitely benefit the company.
CCWU General secretary, Ms. Ann Anderson, said the inking signifies SPL’s commitment to upkeep workers with their benefits which were agreed upon also by management.
Some employees were present on the occasion and SPL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ramsay Ali, said the increases were agreed after some deliberation but, in the end, they were appreciated. (Michel Outridge)
