Second brother charged with theft from same employer

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Kunta McKenzie, of 137 Lamaha Street, Newtown, has been charged with shoplifting.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge.
Particulars of the offence said     McKenzie, on April 6 last, stole one case of spaghetti sauce and one case of vegetable oil, all valued at $10,188, property of Andrew King.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the defendant was employed as a porter with Toucan Industries, on Water Street, also in Georgetown, when he sold the merchandise from a truck on which he was working and split the proceeds with the driver, who is still at large.
But Defence Counsel Leslie Sobers said McKenzie went to deliver some items in a shop and upon his return to the vehicle, discovered the goods and the driver missing.
King, who was in the courtroom, explained that the money for which McKenzie sold the foodstuff did not reflect the real value.
The virtual complainant lamented that theft has been ongoing at his business place for some time, especially involving the McKenzie family.
King said although McKenzie’s brother is currently on trial for breaking into the store and stealing, he did not want the present defendant to suffer because of what the other  sibling did and employed the former.
The McKenzie in the new case was put on $25,000 bail until April 27.
