GUYANA Defence Force’s (GDF) Michael Simon, who dominated the welterweight division, was crowned the 2010 Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Mr Novices Champion, when that entity held its Novices and Intermediate championships at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) last Sunday. Having won the welterweight division (155-165lb /75kg) from Richard Thomas (Zahiff Gym), GDF’s Kevon Waddle and Devon Wray of Total Fitness, Simon took the overall title from Dinon Cumberbatch (Home Gym), Jermaine Sealy (Total Fitness), Rudolph Blackman (Tritons) and Brian Gomes (Muscle Tech) in that order.
17-year-old Blackman started things rolling when he took the bantamweight (143lb/65kg) division, which had nine athletes battling for supremacy, from Devon Davis (GDF) and Cordell Caryl (CNS Fitness), with Total Fitness’ Kelvin Singh and Kevin Ramessar completing the top five.
In the lightweight (144-154lb/70kg) division, Muscle Tech’s Brian Gomes won from GDF’s Victor Logan and Zahiff Gym’s Roger Callender, with Donald Lindie (Crushers Barbell Club) and Ronald Livingstone of Total Fitness rounding off the top five.
The light middleweight (166-176lb/80kg) division was taken by Total Fitness’ Jermaine Sealy away from GDF’s Daison Campbell (2nd), Buddy’s Gym Nandram Bhagwandin (3rd) and Total Fitness’ Allen Crawford in fourth place.
Prior to placing second to Simon in the overall pose down, Cumberbatch took the heavyweight (176lb and over) division from Kevin Edwards (Flex Gym), Dexter De Florimonte (Zahiff Gym) and Nouckie Gill of Flex Gym respectively.
16-year-old Letitia Miles of the GDF, won the Miss Body Fitness Open competition from her five gym mates, leaving Kascia Beaton, Daeseia Junor, Junita Hooper, Phylicia Burke and Shannah Thornhill trailing in her wake.

There were only three entrants in the Intermediate category, namely Caerus Cipriani (lightweight), Godfrey Stoby (middleweight) and Dinon Cumberbatch (heavyweight), of which Stoby emerged as the overall winner.
Simon and the Ms Body Fitness Letitia Miles will each receive a six-month supply of supplements from Health Path Fitness Store which is located at the Harbour Bridge Mall, while all other first-place winners will receive hampers, compliments of Fitness Express on Sheriff Street.
