Inspire Positive Change…
YOU don’t have to be a scholar to agree, with the fact, that everything has purpose: in my adult “Communication & Leadership” programme, at The Business Campus, I often start my lectures with an exercise that examines the substance and purpose of things we are familiar with. For example, I would hold a piece of paper above my head and ask my audience to describe what it is.
After they have completed the first exercise, I would move immediately to the second
exercise and asked what the purpose of paper really is. I will choose a few other familiar things, like Pen and Chair, and proceed in the exercise in the same way. After this phase of the exercise I will apply the same principle to engage my audience to think about whom they are and to identify their purpose in life, in the same way.
History has shown, that understanding your life’s purpose can prove to be challenging, if not impossible. To understand your role as a parent, presents no less a challenge. Your role as a parent is not just about providing food, clothing and shelter.
It is not just about providing moral and social guidance and it is certainly, just not about creating an ambience that enhance one’s sense of security as a vehicle of social cohesion.
Don’t get me wrong. Your role and purpose as a parent represents all of these great social necessities, but it does not end here, particularly so, when the intricacies of the word “Purpose” is aligned to your parental responsibilities.
What I am telling you is that, in your life time, it is possible to understand the substance of your life and the purpose of your living in relation to your social responsibilities as parents.
What is your role and purpose as parents: please don’t give me any of the above answers. Your role as parents is untapped. Yes, you deserve a tap-on-the-back. Yes, you have done your best, in view of your circumstances and yes, you deserve the recognition of the highest award for excellence in parenting.
I am still here, to be in your face to tell you, that your full potential, as parents, is untapped.
You must develop your plan and have what it takes to work your plan to realize desire results in your abilities to inspire your child and your children to greatness. You are an unlimited being; born with the potential to exceed greatness, and so is your child.
Before explaining myself further on the issue of your untapped parental responsibilities, allow me to engage your attention on a classical piece of poem, that I wrote, and which is published in the book titled, “Inspire The Child”.
I am in search of self.
I have searched the universe
I have searched myself
I have engaged the attention of
The wisest men on earth
I am in search of self.
I have journeyed to lectured theaters,
Religious balconies and political arenas
I have journeyed the universe in search of self.
Who am I?
What is my purpose?
Is my purpose aligned to passion?
How relevant are people to my real purpose on earth?
The wisest one didn’t answer my cry
I will not accept that I am a stranger to my self
I will discover the laws of self realization
And break through like no man has ever done
I will not reach my maker as a stranger to myself.
As parents, you must empower and inspire your children to go beyond the point of being strangers to themselves.
You must motivate your children into becoming great social leaders and some of the best scientific and entrepreneurial thinkers that the world has ever known.
To achieve this, you first, must develop a greater sense of self and an intricate sense of purpose that is aligned to the full development of the mindset of your children.
I have a question to ask: Who set limits to your parental responsibilities? Who set limits to how much you can do to influence positive growth in your child’s life? Who tells you that you can’t inspire your child to break through in this world like no man has ever done?
Let me answer you, no one but yourself. You can change this reality, but you have to first of all, commit to the retooling of your thinking, commit to the development of an understanding of your untapped abilities and come to the point of realization that the future you want for yourself and the nuclear family must begin with you.
As parents, you must own and honor your responsibilities to your self, your child or children.
Don’t leave it up to the media, the school system or the government. They all have roles to play in the likes of your children but you have to see your role as the single most important source of influence in defining the destiny of our future leaders.
Just like the building contractor develops his plan and works his plan, you must ask yourselves, what quality of life you want to create for yourselves and your children.
Then develop a workable plan to have those great things manifest in your lives. You must know what you want, align them to the dreams and aspirations of others and know just how to achieve them, just like the building contractor.
However, there are some important facts that you should note about a plan: first, there is no perfect plan. This is not said to justify your inaction to plan for greatness. However, it should be interpreted as a recommendation that you should, as the smart contractor, use to identify things that can go wrong and put systems in place to soften any expected and unexpected risk.
Secondly all great plans have a title; the start and end date are established, the objectives of the plan are clear, the resources to implement the plan, successfully, is known and the standard and quality to closeout the plan is agreed upon.
Parents must become social building contractors, in the interest of advancing the social, cultural, academic and economic ambitions of the nuclear family.
The future of this na
tion is defined by the nature and quality of parenting. The fabric of any nation is defined through quality parenting or the lack of it.
Parenting is a social responsibility that should never be under-estimated. In the next article, I will illustrate a structured and graphical plan that parents can use as a great social builder to inspire yourselves and children to greatness.
