PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Brian Sattaur top-scored with an even 50 to lead Guyana to a four-wicket victory over holders Jamaica in the second round of the West Indies Under-15 Championship yesterday. Sattaur struck five boundaries in his knock, as the Guyanese, chasing 160 for victory, hit the jackpot with 26 balls to spare at Kennedy Park in the southern city of San Fernando.
Romario De Jonge and Kamesh Kadran both supported with 25 to leave Guyana as one of two unbeaten teams in the competition so far.
With the win, Guyana are now joint leaders in the series with hosts Trinidad & Tobago on six points.
Jamaica, choosing to bat, were restricted to 159 for five from their allocation of 50 overs.
Sadique Henry led the way with 31, Marquino Mindley made 28, and Fabian Allen got 24.
Devon Lord was the most successful bowler for Guyana with three for 36, while captain Shawn Perreira and Ricardo Adams collected two wickets apiece.
The Guyanese started their chase cautiously, and began to gain momentum in the middle of the innings with opening batsman Sattaur anchoring them most of the way.
At Munroe Road Recreation Ground in the southern district of Cunupia, hosts Trinidad & Tobago too, romped to their second straight victory, when they defeated Windward Islands by seven wickets.
Leg-spinner Vikash Mohan, the T&T captain, bagged two for 13, as the Windwards were routed for a modest 86 in 36.4 overs.
Only Dylan Joseph offered a sprinkle of resistance for the Windwards with 22.
Andy Gobin supported withj two for four.
In response, Mohan led the way to victory with an unbeaten 43 that included six fours and a six off 56 deliveries, as T&T reached their target of 87 for three in 24.1 overs.
At Wilson Road Recreation Ground in the southern town of Penal, Barbados bounced back from their first round loss to Jamaica on Monday, with an authoritative seven-wicket victory against Leeward Islands.
Shawn Tuitt hit nine fours in 53 from 99 balls, as Leewards were dismissed for 147 in 46.4 overs.
Dario Boyce, Chad Williams, and Daniel Jordan snared two wickets apiece.
Aaron Jones then smashed 46 off 46 balls, Barbados captain Jamal Stuart added an unbeaten 39 off 50 balls, and Shane Proverbs made 24, as the Barbadians wasted no time and cantered to victory with 129 balls to spare.
A.J. Abrams took two for 27 for the Leewards.
