Adams, Leitch, La Fleur hit tons; wins for three teams

BCB/GCB three-day competition …
THE Berbice zone of the 2009/2010 Guyana Cricket Board first division  three-day cricket competition continued with the conclusion of the latest round of matches over the last weekend, which saw Steffon Adams, Kelvin Leitch and Joemal La Fleur register tons.
At the Blairmont ground, West Berbice inflicted an innings and 154-run victory on Young Warriors, who were forced to declare their second innings close due to the absence of three players, two of whom were later disciplined.
Resuming at their over-week score of 155 for 3 in response to Young Warriors’ 175 with Adams on 65 and Troy Haley 14, West Berbice went on to rattle up 432 before they were bowled out with Adams hitting his maiden ton in a top score of 105 (13×4).
Haley fell for 34, Sherwin McPherson (41), Keith Fraser (37), Kenje Sedoc (34) and Guyana and West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Keon Joseph an unbeaten 27 against the bowling of national Under-19 coach Hubern Evans who took 5 for 99 from 28 Overs with his off-spin.
Another off-spinner in Farouk Hussain who was one of the three missing batsmen in his team’s second innings, took 2 for 54 and former West Indies Under-19 cricketer Richard Ramdeen, bowling left arm spin, 2 for 90.
Facing a first innings deficit of 257 runs and severely handicapped by the absence of three of their batsmen, in Hussain and the prolific opener Waheid Edwards as well as the injured Fiaz Hamid, Young Warriors could reach only 103 for 7 before declaring their second innings close.
Ishwar Singh top-scored with 41 while former Berbice Under-19 off-spinner Krishandat Ramoo took 3 for 13 and former Berbice Under-15 fast bowler Ron Johnson 2 for 22.

Over at the Cumberland ground in Canje, Rose Hall Community Centre took first innings points from Bermine in their drawn match, as Bermine, who resumed on their over-week first innings score of 61 for 1, responding to Rose Hall’s challenging 335, reached 274 in reply.
Leitch and Trinson Bynoe both resumed on 25 and after Bynoe fell for 37, Leitch continued holding things together and in partnership with La Fleur, who made a quick-fire 63 (10×4), put on 75 for the third wicket.
Leitch went on to score his maiden ton 105 (16×4) to help Bermine reach 274 in reply, against the bowling of former Berbice Under-15 leg-spinner Kevin Ramdeen who took 4 for 77, and off-spinner Romesh Munna 2 for 64.
With a first innings lead of 61, Rose Hall Community Centre batting on too long in their second innings because they too were short of two players on the last day, but managed to reach 306 before they were bowled out.
Munna top-scored with 73, Khemraj Sumair 54 (his second half-century of the match, Kevin Ramdeen 41, Sasenarine Sukhdeo 28 and Vishal Mohabir 27. Bowling for Bermine, left-arm spinner Troy Mickle took 6 for 119 and La Fleur 2 for 67.
Left with 60 overs to bat on the last day in which they were looking too score 368 runs for a come-from-behind victory, Bermine lost two wickets in the first over for one run but thanks mainly to La Fleur, who scored his maiden first division ton, an even 100, and Leitch’s 43, they reached 279-7 at the end of the match.
Off-spinner Vedesh Singh took 2 for 15 for Rose Hall Community Centre who were forced to settle for six points, while their opponents would have been content with the three points they got out of the match.

At Edinburgh, Edinburgh came back to defeat Police by 4 wickets after losing first innings points.
With a first innings lead of 69 runs, Police resumed their second innings at 6 for 1 and were bowled out for 183 despite a fighting 73 from Michael Newland. Kenroy Henry and Philbert Wilbourgh made 26 each.
Bowling for Edinburgh, off-spinner Mark Sampson took 4 for 31 which together with his first innings return of 5 for 36, gave him a match haul of 9 for 67, while Raid Ally and Charles Shepherd, who are also off-spinners, took 4 for 49 and 2-36 respectively.
Set 253 for victory, Edinburgh reached the target for the loss of six wickets with Chris Yadram 56, Shafiek Khan 63 and Zahir Hussain 35 not out, taking them there against the bowling of Police off-spinner Andel Doris and former Guyana Under-19 pacer Kellon Henry who both took 2 for 64.
Scores:  Police 188 and 183, Edinburgh 119 and 253 for 6.

Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG) defeated Port Mourant by four wickets in their match-up at the Area ‘H’ ground in Rose Hall.
Resuming at their over-week first innings score of 143 for 5, in response to Port Mourant’s 118, RHTGG were bowled out for 200, with Troy Matheison 44, Berbice Under-19 all-rounder Terrence Madramootoo 43 and Berbice Under-19 cricketer Eon Hooper contributing 25.
Bowling for Port Mourant, former Guyana Under-19 off-spinner Steven Latcha took 5 for 49 from 24 overs, off-spinner Sameer Khan 2 for 26 and medium pacer Yudendra Harrinarine 2 for 50.
Facing a first innings deficit of 82 runs, Port Mourant could muster only 146 in their second innings with Devendra Thakurdeen making an unbeaten 81 and former Berbice opening batsman Moshin Peerkhan 24.
Bowling for RHTGG, left-arm spinner Ravi Narine took 3 for 38 and former Berbice Under-15 off-spinner Lloydel Lewis 3 for 42 and needing to score 64 for victory, RHTGG struggled to 68-6, with Jason Sinclair top-scoring with 25 while Thakurdeen took 3-6 and Latcha 2-26.   
Scores:  Port Mourant 118 and 146, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets 200 and 68 for 6.
